About Us

A LITTLE ABOUT US ...

Thoroughbred racehorses are a breed of horse known for their speed, strength, stamina, and definitive physical characteristics.

We feel that the thoroughbred best represents our business and our students ("CrossFitters").  Thoroughbreds embody the pure essence of what is achievable with CrossFit.

The dedicated CrossFitter enjoys a new level of complete and overall physical preparedness and fitness.  Improved strength, speed, power, endurance, and athletic ability transfer to increased self-esteem, confidence, and a new “Strong IS Sexy” attitude.

We do not specialize; instead we train across a broad spectrum of disciplines which in turn equips our students with the ability to participate in any variety of sport or recreational activity with intensity and poise.

A CrossFitter may decide to participate in a 5K run, a recreational volleyball or basketball league, a Powerlifting meet, or maybe he/she just wants to look good and feel strong.  In a nutshell this is General Physical Preparedness (GPP), the ability to handle anything life throws at you or whatever event you choose to participate in.

Have you ever admired the physique of a sprinter or decathlete?  They are near perfect physical specimens; lean, hard, sinewy, athletic.  Ever wonder how they train?  Almost exclusively, they perform a varied assortment of multiple-joint weightlifting exercises in combination with running, sprinting, jumping, and throwing at high intensity.  Does this sound familiar?  By definition CrossFit is “BROADLY VARIED FUNCTIONAL TRAINING PERFORMED AT HIGH INTENSITY.”

Now, are you beginning to see what we’re getting at?  World class athletes train this way for a reason.  CrossFit is pure metabolic conditioning.  If you follow the prescription accordingly you will increase lean muscle mass, decrease body fat, and improve overall strength and stamina.  Moreover, you’ll do so in a manner that is challenging, exciting, and fun.  Every CrossFit class IS a sporting event; it’s YOUR personal stage to “set the bar” for yourself, and to motivate and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow CrossFitters.

PLEASE NOTE:  CrossFit is a scalable activity.  We can accommodate a wide range of abilities, from beginners to advanced level CrossFitters, by scaling or modifying certain exercises and managing intensity and volume during workouts.  However, there are a number of qualities that must be present for one to be successful with the CrossFit program.  We require all potential CrossFitters to consult with a coach before joining so we can personally explain the physical and mental demands and expectations of the program.  Additionally, the consultation allows us to evaluate individual physical preparedness and grasp some knowledge of the person’s background and ability level as it relates to CrossFit.

The heart of our program is based around a series of “core” movements; variations of the Olympic lifts that require a fair amount of technical skill in order to perform them safely and effectively.  These lifts are performed quickly and through a full range of motion, so a certain prerequisite amount of speed, explosiveness, core strength/stability and flexibility is needed.  You don’t have to be an all-star athlete to succeed with CrossFit, but if we feel that you need more individual attention and coaching to get started we may recommended some time one-on-one with a personal trainer first.

With some time, patience, dedication and consistency, most people have the ability to become proficient at these lifts.  Normally, we utilize the first half of each class to thoroughly warm-up and practice one of the “core” lifts before executing the W.O.D. (Workout of the Day).  This format allows students to constantly refine their skills, build a solid base level of strength, and allows the coaches to introduce new variations of the “core” lifts as students master the base level of skills and progress forward.

As your CrossFit Coaches, we’re here to facilitate this – so let’s get started! Send us an email at crossfittb@yahoo.com or call 239-851-3940

Sincerely,

Jeremy Barnett, Founder CFTB
